Seven alleged guerrilla fighters were killed and four injured following the bombing of an encampment by Armed Forces in northeast Colombia, Colombian media reported Friday.
The authorities said the aim of the operation was to kill the head of the organization Victor Ramon Navarro, alias “Megateo.” An important member of EPL alias “Pablito” was also captured during the operation.
In May 2011 Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos announced a $1.1 million reward for the arrest of Megateo.
A few days ago the Norte de Santander Police began a campaingn to encourage Megateo to demobilize using flyers and posters. The EPL guerrilla movement largely demobilized in 1991.
