While awaiting trial for corruption allegations, the former mayor of Bogota, Samuel Moreno was denied bail Thursday.
The ex-mayor has been waiting for his day in court since September 2011 after he was removed from office due to extortion and embezzlement charges amongst others.

A criminal court judge reportedly claimed that the complexity of the process meant a public hearing must be pushed back even further, which is a sufficient enough reason to continue detaining Moreno.
The disgraced former mayor’s most recent plea for bail was in July of 2012. He is currently being held in Bogota’s La Picota prison.
