Bogota

Bogota to host Colombia’s World Music Day edition

by Julia Myska June 18, 2013

Bogota will represent Colombia’s participation in the internationally held World Music Day between June 21 and June 23.

The World Music Day was founded in France and is characterized by the diverse participation of volunteer amateurs and professional musicians.

The international event to celebrate music is enjoyed by thousands of people each year in more than 100 countries worldwide.

The World Music Day will for the second year in a row be celebrated in Bogota. The event has a 10-year-old history in the country and has previously been hosted in Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla.

A huge variety of shows, plenty of genres and at least 11 different locations will aim to lighten up the cloudy capital weather next weekend.

Sponsors of this year’s festival are the Colombian singers Yuri Buenaventura and Toto la Momposina.

The Music Festival in Bogota aims to turn the capital into a great concert and give voice to all musicians who want to participate. The concerts will be attended by both established bands but also those still hopeful of a breakthrough.

The French Embassy, the Ministry of Culture and Bogota authorities are among the bodies sponsoring the event.
