Bogota-Medellin bus crash kills 1, injures 8

by Kathryn Thompson April 25, 2011

Colombia news - bus crash

A bus driver died and eight passengers were injured when an over-capacity bus crashed on the route from Bogota to Medellin early on Monday morning, reported local media.

Reports said the Rapido Tolima bus crashed at 4AM near the town of San Luis, in the east of the Antioquia department, where workers were trying to clear a fallen tree trunk. The bus, which had four people in the drivers cabin, was overcrowded with holidaymakers returning from Easter celebrations in the capital.

The driver was killed instantly, while six of the eight injured passengers were taken to Rio Negro hospital.

Two landslides hit the same section of the highway over the weekend, disrupting transport services over the busy holiday weekend.
