21-year-old Karen Jimenez was crowned the new Queen of Livestock during the 37th annual Pageant for People and Culture of Livestock, a festival celebrating local culture in the northern Colombian city of Monteria.
Jimenez is a social communications and journalism student from the southwestern department of Huila.
“Thanks to all for believing in me. I dedicated this crown to God, my family and my department. At no time did I think I would win, but I felt welcomed here in [the department of] Cordoba because people received me very graciously,” said Jimenez following her victory.
She reportedly believes it was her strong knowledge of livestock that secured her the win.
Colombian beauty queens have weathered a storm of controversy recently. The newly annointed Miss Cartagena faces disqualification after reports came to light that she posed in lingerie for a racy photo shoot, prohibited by the country’s National Beauty Contest organizers. Similarly, Miss Bogota, who was crowned in April, might lose her title after a local television station allegedly got their hands on nude photos featuring the beauty queen, Loly Fuentes.
