Colombia’s police have seized nearly 900 assets supposedly belonging to ex-paramilitaries, worth an estimated value of around $8.5 million, La F.M. reported Monday.
Authorities seized 883 assets in total, of which 822 were plots of land, in the departments of Cundinamarca, Antioquia and Cordoba. Various cars and shops were also included in the haul.
The assets were in the name of at least six people linked to Jairo Andres Angarita Santos, alias “Andres,” who was the head of the Sinu and San Jorge Bloc of the AUC until his death in Medellin in December 2006.
“These assets will eventually go to make part of the reparations of the Victims Law, specifically victims of the violence that the AUC created,” said General Carlos Mena, the head of the judicial police Dijin.
