Colombia rescues Polish tourists lost in jungle

by Alice Boyd November 14, 2011

jungle colombian news

Colombian security forces rescued two Polish tourists who had been lost for nine days in the jungle in the southern Colombian department of Caqueta.

The Colombian Air Force was able to evacuate the two Polish men by helicopter from the shore of the Yari River, where they had been lost in a small boat.

The two Poles had planned to make their way from the River Yari to the municipality of Solano in what was to be an ecological tour of the jungle.

The men managed to make contact with emergency services on Thursday by using a satellite phone, however the rescue mission was delayed due to extreme weather conditions which hindered the flying ability of the helicopters.

According to authorities, the two men were exhausted but in good health.
