Authorities capture Antioquia kidnapping suspect

by Marguerite Cawley May 3, 2011

Colombia News - Capture criminal

Authorities have reported the capture of a suspect in the Holy Week kidnapping of ten people on holiday in Antioquia.

According to agents of the Technical Investigation Team (CTI) of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the arrest took place in Medellin during a housing raid in which the authorities found two motorcycles that apparently belonged to the victims, parked outside one dwelling, Colombian media reported Tuesday morning.

The investigative team will present the suspect before a Medellin judge later Tuesday, in order to legalize the arrest, place charges for forced disappearance and kidnapping, and request the imposition of a security measure.

Authorities still do not have leads as to the whereabouts of the 10 victims, who were kidnapped from a vacation home in the municipality of Sopetran, just north of Medellin, in the early evening on April 24, by approximately 15 armed men.
