by | Nov 2, 2011

An Anti-Corruption Unit prosecutor ordered the arrest of a former Colombian minister of transport on Tuesday, for alleged embezzlement.

According to Caracol Radio, ex-minister Gustavo Adolfo Canal was allegedly involved in a settlement breach of over $12 million with the firm Botero Aguilar y CompaƱia, which in turn filed a complaint against the state.

The allegedly breached contract was awarded to Botero Aguilar y CompaƱia in 1983 by the Ministry of Public Works and the National Road Fund, and the investigation stemmed from a complaint lodged by Andres Uriel Gallego, another former Minister of Transportation, in 2006, which drew the attention of the prosecutor.

At least six other government officials are being called-in for questioning regarding this case.
