Argentina’s Federal Court has indicted Colombian footballer Giovanni Hernandez for tax evasion during his time as a Colon de Santa Fe player, reported El Espectador Wednesday.
The court also ordered the seizure of his assets claiming he evaded more than $125,000 while playing for the Santa Fe team between 2003 and 2006.
Argentina’s treasury department found “substantial debts owed by the player as a result of incorrect tax returns,” leading the court to seek an international warrant for the detention of the player.
Giovanni Hernandez, 34, now plays for Atletico Junior in Colombia. He played 124 games for Colon Santa Fe and claims to have received a much lower salary than his tax burden suggests.
