Airlines adjust flights to accommodate to rain

by Manuela Kuehr November 30, 2010

Colombia news - Air ports

Colombian airlines have had to adjust their flight schedules to due to heavy rain and fog, news source CMI reports.

Bogota airport El Dorado has experienced a series of delays as a result of heavy rains across Colombia, causing delays in other Colombian cities.

Air navigation services director Hector Carrascal explained that the authorities plan to coordinate flights while the weather is good to ensure that the airlines landing at El Dorado do not attempt to all do so at the same time.

“The winter will affect us until early January, experts say; for this reason we try to reduce the rates of cancellation with all airlines,” Carrascal added.

Things are further complicated by the high volume of air traffic as high vacation season begins.

Aerocivil sent a request to the Ministry of Environment to authorize increased operations beyond 10 PM, if weather conditions prevent the normal use of the runways during the day.
