Official banned from public office over Congress contract irregularities

by Saisha Kristina Riojas October 10, 2011

Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office bans the administrative director of the nation’s House of Representatives, Jairo Jaramillo Matiz, from holding public office for a period of 14 years over irregularities discovered in a contract made in November 2010, Caracol Radio reported Monday.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, the House of Representatives signed a contract with Infotic S.A., a government contracted technological firm, without having followed proper procedure, which indicated apparent foul play.

The same investigation resulted in the head of the Legal Division of the House of Representatives, Carlos Alberto Florez Rojas, being banned from public office for 13 years.

Orlando Patiño Silva, Manager of Infotic S.A., was also banned from public office for 12 years for “having engaged in a contract in which he had no authorization to execute and to permit, participate and take part in allowing the administrative director and head of the Legal Division of the House of Representatives to violate principles of transparency and responsibility for public contracts.”
