Acting south Colombia governor resigns

by Jim Glade February 2, 2011

Colombia News - Felipe Robledo

The acting governer of Colomabi’s southern department of Guaviare resigned on Wednesday citing lack of time to perform his duties, reports RCN Radio.

Governor Felipe Robledo is also the current deputy justice minister and was appointed to the position of governor in December 2010 after the former Governor Dagoberto Suarez Melo died in a car accident.

Before resigning, Robledo suggested the Ministry of Interior appoint their own advisor Ricardo Castillo to the position of governor.

Guaviare have seen seven heads-of-state pass through office in the past three years, and recently a former governor of the department was convicted for paramilitary ties.
