Alan Parsons, master sound engineer of classic British rock albums such as Abbey Road and The Dark Side of the Moon, will perform with the Medellin Philharmonic this Saturday.
The Alan Parsons Live Project, band of renowned British sound engineer Alan Parsons, will play with the Medellin Philharmonic to kick off Medellin’s 6th Annual International Music Festival tomorrow evening in La Parque Pies Descalzos.
“When it comes to a large scale concert like this, a national event on television, you feel that it’s something sensational,” the British icon told newspaper, El Tiempo.
Parsons reflected on the process of planning this joint concert and noted that it has not been easy and that the logistics have gone on for months.
“We’ve traveled here and there, and it has been fast and furious. Technology definitely has helped us a lot with this. We avoid sending huge boxes of [music scores] for orchestra rehearsals. Now everything is in PDF,” explained Parsons.
On if the two groups would be ready for the big performance, he commented to the press, “I worry a little about the rehearsal time we will have together, but I know the orchestra will be fine as everyone has been very excited about the concert. The technicians have also been talking all the time.”
Alan Parsons is known as the architect of progressive British rock due to his audio engineering and production of such iconic albums as The Beatles’ Abbey Road and Pink Floyds’s The Dark Side of the Moon. At age 64, this will be Parsons’ third trip to Colombia, and his first performance in Medellin.
The Alan Parsons Live Project is the live touring version of the Alan Parsons Project, the band formed by the sound engineer in 1975. Currently its members are PJ Olsson, Manny Focarazzo, Danny Thompson, Guy Erez, Alastair Greene and Todd Cooper.
The Medellin Philharmonic is one of four professional orchestras in Colombia, and is the official orchestra of Medellin according to website MusData.com. The Philharmonic was founded in 1983 by maestro Alberto Correa, and is normally housed in the Medellin Metropolitan Theater located downtown.
The concert will be this Saturday night at 7PM at La Parque Pies Descalzos and tickets will be available at Tuboleta.com.
The 6th Annual Medellin International Music Festival begins this Saturday and concludes on September 14.
“It’s always a privilege to play with an orchestra,” Parsons added to El Tiempo, “mostly because I could never afford one!”
