United States Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Colombia will focus on the country’s security progress and aims to “reaffirm the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations,” White House officials told Colombian media.
Biden will be in Colombia’s capital Bogota on Monday to meet the country’s president, Juan Manuel Santos, to discuss the progress in public safety, an anonymous White House source told newspaper El Espectador.
According to newspaper El Tiempo, another anonymous White House official said Biden’s trip to Colombia, Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago should be seen as “the latest demonstration of the commitment of the United States to strengthen the relationship with the Americas.”
The source told the newspaper that Biden will also evaluate progress on a free trade agreement between the U.S. and Colombia that recently celebrated its first anniversary.
The U.S. vice president will arrive in Colombia on Sunday and will stay until Monday after which he will go to Brazil.
