Colombian native Shakira, will present awards at a ceremony recognizing child development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The second annual ALAS-IDB awards, sponsored by the Inter-American Devolopment Bank (IDB) and Shakira’s ALAS Foundation will take place at IDB headquarters this fall in Washington, D.C.
“Last year we launched the first version of ALAS-BID awards through which heard more than 700 extraordinary stories and initiatives for early childhood development in Latin America and the Caribbean,” stated Shakira.
The awards will recognize innovation, excellence, and investment in programs for children in the region.
IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno explained that “Investing in early childhood development is one of the most powerful tools we have to fight against poverty and inequality. With ALAS we will reward initiatives that are changing the future of children in our region.”
Last year, Shakira delivered the prize for the best educator which was given to the Mexican teacher who protected her students while remaining calm during a gun battle outside the school.
Other prizes went to the best publication, innovation, child center, and to a foundation that works with HIV/AIDS affected children.
For this year all awards proposals must be submitted by May 31st.
