Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova, will reportedly play an exhibition match in Bogota on December 6.
Grand Slam Productions confirmed that the world’s number three ranked woman’s player will put on exhibition match in the capital of Colombia.
“It is true, Maria Sharapova will play an exhibition match in Colombia on December 6 in Bogota. The deal was closed December [of] last year,” said Grand Slams Productions press officer, Jaime Bernal.
According to Caracol Radio, Sharapova had refused to play in Bogota for a variety of personal reasons, this time however, her schedule has been modified to allow her the extra two days of social commitments in addition to the match itself.
Sharapova’s opponent has yet to be announced, although two names that have been reportedly thrown around are Anna Ivanovic and Caroline Wozniacki. Bernal also said that the site of the match is still undetermined, although they were looking into the El Campin Colosseum.
If the December match materializes, Sharapova will join a host of other tennis stars to play in Colombia such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Jo Wilfried Tsonga, as well as former players like Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi.
