Millonarios stand alone at the top of the Colombian Primera A after inflicting a first defeat in the league on Junior with a 2-0 success in the capital.
The Bogota based giants showed no frailties in confidence from their 8-0 thrashing at Real Madrid in the previous fixture as they convincingly beat Junior on Saturday to move three points clear at the top of the Postobon II-2012.
Goals from Ozvaldo Hernandez and Juan Esteban Ortiz in either half secured the victory over the visitors who never really got going and saw their star player Teofilo Gutierrez sent off on the stroke of half time for elbowing an opponent.
Millonarios were also reduced to 10 men when Wilberto Cosme was given his marching orders after a second yellow card, but they never looked like relinquishing the lead and went on to claim their seventh victory of the season.
Meanwhile in Medellin, Nacional earned their first home victory of the season thanks to a 1-0 success over Envigado.
Luis Fernando Mosquera scored what proved to be the winning goal on 73 minutes, but then was sent off for celebrating the goal with an obscene gesture.
However, the ten men of Nacional hung on and took away the points to propel them up to fourth in the table – level with their fierce local rivals Independiente Medellin.
For Independiente they found Diego Peralta in unusually fine scoring mood with the defender scoring twice to guide Deortivo Cali to a surprising 2-0 victory on Saturday.
The defeat was Independiente’s first in four games as they missed the chance to leapfrog Junior into second place.
Reigning champions Santa Fe also suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of lowly Atletico Huila on Sunday evening.
Huila, who had only previously won once in the league this season, ran out comfortable 2-0 winners leaving Santa Fe languishing in 14th position and four points off the top eight.
In other matches there were wins for Real Cartagena and La Equidad while Itagui and Cucuta Deportivo shared the spoils after a goalless draw.
