Colombia Vice President Angelino Garzon has said he does not aspire to the Presidency of the Republic, local media reported Thursday.
“I will be faithful to the mandate of the people and my role as vice president, which runs until August 7, 2014,” Garzon said.
With these words, the vice president put aside all rumors he would be running in the next presidential election with the help of former President Alvaro Uribe.
Earlier Garzon responded to rumors of his candidacy by saying he was completely committed to winning the bid for leadership of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which he lost in the fourth round of voting.
Garzon was forced to address the issue head-on once U.K. candidate Guy Ryder was elected as president of ILO on May 28, after which rumors about the vice president’s potential candidacy resurfaced.
