Colombian authorities said Tuesday they have uncovered one semi-submersible and one “go-fast” boat, both popular models among drug smugglers, buried near a jungle stream south of Buenaventura.
Together, the two boats could transport some 30,000 pounds of cocaine, authorities told El Espectador newspaper.
Colombia’s pacific coast has become a narcotrafficking hotspot, authorities added. Traffickers have created artesanal shops there to manufacture illegal goods. And they make good use of the region’s natural features—its marshes and frequent rains, its high and low tides–to smuggle narcotics by boat.
