Soccer phenom Radamel Falcao practiced with Colombia’s national team Thursday despite a hamstring injury that threatens to sideline him for the country’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Atletico Madrid striker said on Twitter that he skipped a friendly Tuesday because of a muscle injury that could worsen if not properly treated.
Team trainers are hoping that the superstar will be able to play in Colombia’s World Cup qualifying matches against Peru June 3 and Ecuador June 10.
“Whether or not he will play, we don’t know yet. He just arrived and we are making evaluations. We will see his progress as times goes by,” said the national team’s physician Carlos Ulloa. “I know the news from Atletico Madrid. We have the report given to us from Atletico and we’ve spoken with them. [The injury] is documented as muscle fatigue,” he explained.
Rumors have surfaced recently that the 26-year-old player has garnered interest from English powerhouse and UEFA Champion’s League winners, Chelsea F.C. Falcao has reiterated his desire to stay with Atletico Madrid, winners of this year’s Europa League final.
