Colombian soccer team Deportivo Pasto Wednesday became the first team in Colombian history to be sanctioned for racist acts by its fans.
The Disciplinary Committee Staff Division League Soccer (Dimayor) fined the team nearly $6,500 for discriminatory acts committed by Deportivo Pasto fans against La Equidad team.
Deportivo Pasto beat La Equidad 3-1 in a match on Sunday March 18 but this victory was soured by fans who yelled racist slurs at Equidad players Dahwling Leudo and Carmelo Valencia.
Dimayor fined the team for their fans’ behavior but has not implicated any Deportivo Pasto players in racist misconduct.
