Colombia’s ambassador to Hollywood John Leguizamo has said the country could attract more film producers if it reduced the 40% movie-making tax, during the first debate at the Hay Festival Cartagena, reported Caracol Radio Friday.
“Colombia, because of its location could become the epicenter of Latin American cinema, but it has to use the same strategies as other countries, giving a discount on taxes,” said the actor.
The Hollywood and Broadway star went on to praise the standards of production in Colombian television.
“In film production there are things that need improvement but television certainly is at a very good level,” he said.
When asked whether the image scares foreign investment away from Colombian cinema Leguizamo said “Fortunately Mexico has a worse image than Colombia.”
Leguizamo opened the seventh edition of the Hay Festival Cartagena which takes place in the coastal Caribbean city until Sunday.
