Colombia’s Polo Democratico and veteran socialist Antonio Navarro Wolf have cut ties, local media reported Monday.
A Polo Democratico committee voted to withdraw recognition from Navarro, who’s also the governor of Narino department, following comments he made stating he did not belong to any political party.
Polo Democratico president Jaime Dussan said that the party respected Navarro’s position and wished him the best of luck for the rest of political career.
Navarro is a former leader of the M-19 guerrilla group, which demobilized in 1990 and entered politics in the 2000s.
He was one of the three collegiate presidents of the Constituent Assembly of Colombia who wrote the Colombian constitution in 1991.
