President Juan Manuel Santos inaugurated the new Colombian embassy on Friday in Ankara, Turkey.
Turkish president Abdullah Gul attended the ceremony, a move which Santos described as “a very good sign of the friendship (…) and the interest that we have in the relationship between our two countries.”
The decision to mutually end visa requirements for citizens visiting either country was another sign of the good state of Colombian-Turkish relations, according to the Colombian president.
Santos said, “I wish simply to say that we are very grateful for all this generosity. This inauguration is a great step towards the development and the conversation of our countries.”
Earlier on Friday, Santos announced a new military cooperation agreement between the two countries, with the Turkish military set to help Colombia in its struggle against illegal armed groups.
