Colombian salsa legend, Joe Arroyo, who died four months ago, will be honored posthumously at the upcoming Latin Grammy awards with an Award for Musical Excellence.
Arroyo will receive the prestigious prize along with 12 other musicians, most of them Latin American.
The salsa artist was discovered in 1973 by lead singer of the band Fruko y sus Tesos, and spent almost a decade performing with the band until launching his solo career in 1981.
Arroyo was soon to become one of the most influential salsa artists the world had ever seen and one of the greatest performers of Caribbean music in Colombia.
Arroyo became well known for mixing a variety of musical styles such as cumbia, reggae, salsa, porro and merengue to create original musical fusions.
Cartagena-born Arroyo, considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century, died on July 26 at the age of 55 following a series of organ failures.
