Gustavo Petro, the Bogota mayoral candidate for the Progressive Party continued to lead in the voter polls according to a Wednesday Gallup survey contracted by Caracol Radio, Caracol Television, and El Espectador.
Twenty-seven percent of respondents said they intended to vote for Petro, while the former mayor of Bogota and Green Party candidate Enrique Peñalosa received 21% of the votes.
Peñalosa has been trailing Petro in the polls since last July.
In third place with 18% is independent candidate Gina Parody who recently signed an alliance with former mayor Antanas Mockus.
According to participants in the survey, 28% believe that things are improving in Bogota while 49% believe they are getting worse, and 21% believe that conditions are the same. The other 2% didn’t know or had no opinion.
The main problem that has to be resolved by the next mayor of Bogota for 48% of the respondents relates to public works and services. Another 34% believe that public policy should be the top priority while 9% believe purchasing power is most important.
Only 8% of respondents believe that efforts should focus primarily on transparency.
