The director of Colombia’s National Hydrocarbons Agency – ANH – resigned Tuesday after eight years at the helm.
It has been said that Armando Zamora handed in his resignation in a letter sent directly to President Juan Manuel Santos. Zamora said he has decided to return to his academic and professional activities.
According to Colombian newspaper El Espectador, doubts have been raised in recent months regarding the allocation of grants to high-ranking officials at the ANH.
One of the functions of the ANH is to collect royalties corresponding to the state relating to the exploitation of hydrocarbons.
On September 7, the body was requested by the Inspector General’s Office to reimburse $551.8 million of royalties collected since 2007 to beneficiaries.
