‘FARC’ grenade explodes in mall in central Colombia

Colombia news - grenade night

A grenade allegedly belonging to the leftist guerrilla group FARC exploded Wednesday in a mall in Neiva, the capital city of the central Huila department.

According to authorities, the grenade damaged a clothing store in the Metropolitano mall but did not harm anyone. The same clothing store franchise was reportedly bombed in January 2011.

Police do not rule out that the attack occurred because stores in the mall refused to pay extortion fees to the guerrilla group. However, the police commander of Neiva refused to disclose the motives for the attack.

No one has been detained in the investigation.
