Two transnational sex trafficking organizations have been “successfully dismantled” following the detainment of five suspects, announced El Espectador Thursday.
In a joint operation between the Colombian judicial police and Interpol, five men were arrested in the Colombian cities of Bogota, Pereira, Cali, Buenaventura and Marinilla for trafficking women overseas and forcing them into prostitution.
The detainees are accused of running two different sex trafficking networks.
The men allegedly recruited women from five departments across Colombia by promising them better employment options abroad and helping them to obtain the necessary visas and passports.
According to the director of the Colombian judicial police, the five men possessed “the communication skills to captivate young, middle-class women.”
The victims were persuaded that they would work as waitresses in countries like the Netherlands or China, reported El Tiempo.
Once the women arrived overseas, they were reportedly forced into prostitution.
