Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos reported that laws and Constitutional reforms approved during the recently concluded Congressional legislative session are unprecedented in the country’s history, the presidential website reported Friday.
Following the conclusion of the session, Santos thanked all of the senators and House representatives for actively participating in the process, the result of which he called “truly exceptional.”
“They have approved Constitutional reforms and laws that are going to change the country’s path for the better, above all in social aspects,” said the president, following a reunion with his own political party, Partido de la U, held for the purpose of analyzing the final outcome of the legislative session.
Santos thanked La U members in particular, who he said were responsible for proposing many of the laws that were ultimately passed, and stated, “The Partido de la U has done its work, it has done its part in Congress.”
Among the achievements, he noted some of the most important laws passed this year, including the country’s National Development Plan and various health care reforms.
The president also called the reunion itself an important measure, stating that as a result, “The Partido [de la U] has promised to continue supporting the government’s work, the government’s policy, and for this I believe this reunion was very important (…) for continuing to plan a future each time better for the country.”
