The brother of former Inspector General Edgardo Maya Villazon has been charged with ordering the murder of a Drummond contractor in 2000 reported El Espectador Thursday.
Jaime Blanco Maya is being held in custody at the order of the Prosecutor General for ordering the May 8, 2000 assassination of Hugo Manuel Guerra a contractor for U.S. mining company Drummond.
Guerra disappeared while traveling on a road near the municipality of Becerril in the northern Cesar department.
His dismembered body was found covered in lime in a pit on a nearby Chiquita banana farm.
Prosecutors said that convicted paramilitary John Jairo Esquivel Cuadrado alias “El Tigre” committed the assassination of the contractor but Jaime Blanco Maya was the one that ordered the hit.
Jaime’s brother, former Inspector General Edgardo Maya Villazon was named in a disciplinary investigation by the State Council in January for possible involvement in the illegal wiretapping of political rivals, human rights workers and magistrates.
