Colombia’s House of Representatives has chosen June 16 as a date for former President Alvaro Uribe to testify regarding the wiretapping scandal that occurred under his administration.
House members confirmed that on that date, the body’s Accusations Commission will listen to a free statement by the ex-president, regarding the process against him for his alleged involvement in the scandal in which political opponents, among others, were illegally monitored and recorded by the DAS and other government officials.
Uribe himself solicited the audience earlier in May, to respond to both the wiretapping scandal, a bribery case and an assassination case, following pressure from the court and politicians to respond publicly.
In late April, the Supreme Court upheld a ruling that the inquiry into Uribe being carried out by the Accusations Committee would be made public.
