Bogota surpassed Cartagena and Medellin and takes sixth in Latin America for the number of international-scale events the city hosted in 2010.
The International Congress and Conventions Association (ICCA) listed Bogota 47 among 340 cities for most international events held last year, climbing 32 spots and surpassing Cartagena and Medellin, reported El Espectador Wednesday.
In the region, Bogota ranks sixth among Latin American cities with Buenos Aires at the top followed by Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
The report indicates that of the 1.4 million visitors to Colombia in 2010, 52% had Bogota as their final destination.
Executive director of the Bogota Convention Bureau declared, “The result obtained is a recognition of the collective work of the public sector, headed by the Secretary of Economic Development and the District Institute of Tourism, the CCB and the private sector.”
“This good news arrived in a moment where the city is living a very special juncture, and converting into a good opportunity for the Bogotanos to think in our city more than in a political agenda,” remarked the conventions director.
