Jairo Clopatosfky Ghisays, director of Coldeportes, the Colombian sports council, has been elected as the new president of the American Sports Council (CADE).
Clopatofsky’s election took place during a Wednesday congregation of sports assemblies in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Colombian media reported.
The choice of the Colombian sports director as head of the CADE represents a significant advance for Colombia in its international image, as well as in the benefits that the country may obtain from other countries for the development of its sports program.
The respective heads of the sports organizations of Venezuela, Canada, Belize and Haiti were elected as vice presidents.
The CADE is an intergovernmental organization of American states that aims to facilitate and foster coordination between national sports organizations, in order to create legislation and policies that promote the growth and protection of sports activities.
During the meeting, it was also decided that Colombia will host the CADE annual assembly in Cartagena in 2012.
