Sofia Vergara, Colombia’s most successful actress, will record children’s audio books, she announced Tuesday.
The Colombian actress announced her plans with the Screen Actors Guild Foundation to record the audio-books in both English and Spanish part of the actor union’s educational program.
Vergara this Monday received the Screen Actors Guild ‘Actors Inspiration Award’ in honor of her charitable contributions to the industry. The award was given at the 6th Annual SAG Foundation Los Angeles Golf Classic created to coincide with the foundation’s 30th anniversary celebration.
Vergara who reached international fame in her role of Gloria in the ABC comedy series “Modern Family” recognized the work of the Foundation in support of struggling actors and educating the community.
The union, which has supported over 100,000 television and film stars, has given over $17 million in financial aid and medical assistance since 1985. Vergara will be the first celebrity to record children’s stories for the Storyline Online website that is supported by the Foundation.
President of the Foundation of SAG JoBeth Williams said “Sofia’s support for our programs, commitment to children’s literacy and generous charitable giving embody the spirit of this award”.
The Barranquilla born star last month received a star in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and was included in Forbes’ annual list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’. When asked on a preference of book Vergara said she had none but recalled reading many children’s books to her son Manolo, now 23 years old.
The audio-books are expected to be available this summer.
