Puerto Rican urban music duo Calle 13 will perform April 8 in Cali with Colombian hip hop group ChocQuibTown.
The two internationally acclaimed groups will play in the city’s Valle del Pacifico events center as part of an urban music festival.
Newspaper El Pais reported that it has teamed up with Mikasa Cafe to sponsor a Facebook competition for four free tickets to the concert event.
Calle 13 was launched to fame in the Latin urban music world in 2005, through their first, self-titled, album. The duo is known for tracks that incorporate various genres of music, including reggaeton and hip hop, and serve as social commentaries, through a combination of critical opinion and dark humor.
Their latest disc, “Entren los que quieran,” released in fall 2010, incorporates these same themes in its 15 tracks.
ChocQuibTown, who hail from Colombia’s Choco department, which is host to a high Afro-Colombian population, recently received a Latin Grammy for their hit song “De donde vengo yo.” The group’s music fuses elements of funk, hip hop, and reggae, among other genres.
Both groups will be present at Bogota’s Estereo Picnic festival a day later, on April 9.
