An explosion on a boat at a river checkpoint in Cauca, southwest Colombia, leaves one naval officer dead and three marines injured, while three civilians are reported missing, Caracol reported Monday.
The boat was passing through the checkpoint in the town of Lopez de Micay, on the Pacific coast of Cauca, when the blast occurred.
Raul Mosquera Suarez was killed in the explosion, while the injured trio of marines have since been rushed to a hospital in Buenaventura.
Admiral Hernando Wills Velez, commander of the Pacific Naval Force, blamed the FARC for the attack, labelling it a demonstration of the barbarity with which the FARC operate.
He added that operations are underway to locate the guerrillas who prepared and detonated the so-called “boat bomb.”
