The Red Cross have announced that the release of the final two FARC hostages will not happen on Sunday, Tele Sur reports.
“Unfortunately the release of Guillermo Solorzano and Salin Sanmiguel was not possible when the helicopter arrived at the coordinates,” Red Cross spokeswoman Maria Cristina Rivera said.
She added, “we have no information on the reasons that led to this and so must await the return of the humanitarian mission for an explanation.”
The brother of Solorzano has told media that the reason was due to bad weather conditions though an official statement on the matter is still being awaited.
Mediator Piedad Cordoba tweeted that she is seeking authorization from President Juan Manuel Santos to carry out the operation on Monday morning at 6:00AM.
She, along with members of Colombians for Peace and the Red Cross are now locked in discussions with the government to establish whether this is a possibility.
Earlier on Sunday, Carlos Alberto Ocampo Perez was picked up by the humanitarian mission. This was after weather conditions had already forced one delay that caused the helicopter to land in Chaparral.
