President Juan Manuel Santos has met with the director of internet TV station Netflix to discuss ongoing Netflix productions in Colombia.
The meeting which took place on Wednesday October 1 to discuss the filming and production of Netflix series “Narcos” a ten part TV series to be released in 2015 which focuses on Narco-trafficking in Colombia and around the world.
The meeting in Bogota was attended by President Santos, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Celicia Alvarez, Minister of Culture Mariana Garces and Minister of Information Technologies and Communications , Diego Molano, along with the Netflix director Ted Sarandos and Narcos director José Padilha, famous for his productions Rococop and Elite force.
Netflix is an online TV and movie platform which allows users to stream media online for a monthly subscription fee. Netflix is currently available in 50 countries worldwide and has roughly 50 million subscribed users.
The series Narcos recreates the story of the growth and spread of drug cartels around the world in recent decades and the efforts of the governments of several countries including Colombia their fight against drug trafficking.

The Colombia government recently initiated a new incentive to attract film-makers to the country by offering a fee of 40% – 20 %.
The incentive guarantees 40% of the investment in ” film services ” ( services related to the audiovisual pre -production , production or post -production services) and 20 % for ” logistics ” (those who are provided for the hotel , catering, and transportation)by the Colombian government.
In a press release, Netflix announced the production of the ” Narcos ” series in Colombia stating their commitment to the acting talent of the country and the improving social and economic situation in the country .
The government hopes that the filming of the Netflix series will boost employment in the visual media industry in the country and attract more producers to Colombia.
