There have been no reported cases of HIV in new-born babies in Bogota over the past four years, reports RCN.
Since 2006, Bogota has screened 83,279 pregnant women and found only 125 HIV positive cases. Those found carrying the virus, and their babies, were closely monitored for the first 15 months after birth to ensure the babies did not develop the virus.
There is only one public HIV testing laboratory in Bogota, which is in charge of testing for the virus and monitoring infection. Every year they administer more than 21,000 tests to pregnant women and 36,000 to the general population.
