A car bomb attributed to the FARC guerrilla group destroys a bridge in the municipality of Tibu, in Colombia’s Norte de Santander department, which borders Venezuela, Globovision reported Tuesday.
The municipality suffered many attacks last weekend, which police attribute to the guerrilla group’s 33rd Front.
Jose del Carmen Garcia, mayor of Tibu, on Tuesday stated that the situation in the area was “delicate” and in the past eighty hours there had been attacks against the energy infrastructure, roads, and other public spaces.
Authorities say that the FARC were also responsible for bombing energy towers on Monday night, which left the town without power.
The electricity company has been unable to repair the towers out of fear of another attack, and of the presence of mines in the area.
Carmen Garcia said the FARC set up a number of illegal checkpoints where they burnt several cars and attacked an ambulance.
The FARC also allegedly blew up two bridges on Saturday which left the Catatumbo zone in the center of Colombia isolated and to have held a farmhouse hostage with gunshots, killing one man.
