However, Pekerman never lost sight of the next match, declaring “We managed to classify but going beyond the 9 points, Uruguay is a very close matchup and we must be prepared. Hopefully we are ready for that game. We face one of the biggest teams in South America and the world.”
“We had the possibility to rest some players and that is good, but before we yell victory, we have to play to games,” stated Pekerman.
The next matchup for Colombia in the 2014 World Cup is on Saturday against Uruguay who won an upsetting 1 to 0 victory over Italy. Luck may be on Colombia’s side because one of Uruguay’s biggest stars, striker Luis Suarez, allegedly bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in Tuesday’s match which may result in some disciplinary action.
To all Colombian fans Pekerman had this to say, “This result is the prize for all the support. It is a great pleasure that Colombia is experiencing this moment.”
