Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says his political opponents have attacked him “without mercy” following an embarrassing incident on Sunday in Barranquilla where the head of state incidentally wet himself on stage.
The president released a statement on Tuesday explaining that “At the launch of my presidential campaign I suffered what is known as an accident incontinence, due to operation, which I underwent a year and a half ago to remove prostate cancer.”
The incident, which was caught on camera, shows the president incidentally wetting himself while giving a speech to a crowd of supporters in the Caribbean city of Barranquilla.

Santos expressed his concern for the “down-right cruel” comments that were made of the video which went viral after the episode stating it “a mishap that can happen to any human being.”
According to Santos, he has sought the opinion of Dr Adolfo Llinas from the Santa Fe Foundation hospital on the matter and gave his thanks to all the Colombians who have “expressed their comprehension and sympathy.”
Colombia’s presidential elections will be held on the 25 of May with the incumbent president currently leading all the major polls.
