Medellin’s 8th annual Book Fair kicked off on Thursday, opening the door to 10 days of exhibitions, cultural events, lectures, discussions, and writer talks in Colombia’s second largest city.

From September 12 to 20, visitors will be able to find books at dozens of stands in the city’s Botanic Garden, while the local government organized significant programming with thousands of activities to promote reading, with a substantial list of national and international guests, and about ninety book launches on the program. The 8th Annual Book Fair focuses on borders, featuring particularly on the Mexican border city of Tijuana.

More than 360 guests will participate in the literary festival. This year within the list of invitees are the award-winning authors Argentine Andres Neuman, Colombian Jorge Franco, Argentine Leopoldo Brizuela and the Mexican Xavier Velasco.

An outdoor exhibition called “34 + 2: Alvaro Mutis and Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s literary universe in Medellin” will be featured during the festival. The exhibition will include local writers in Antioquia along with these two literary greats.
