Authorities destroy 5 ‘FARC’ camps in eastern Colombia

Colombia’s national forces have dismantled five alleged FARC camps in the eastern departments of Arauca and Casanare, El Espectador reported Tuesday.

Two of the military operations took place in the municipality of Arauquita, Arauca, with one of them supposedly belonging to the “Drigelio Almarales” squadron of the FARC.

Although the relatively large camp had a capacity for 90 guerrillas, those that had been present fled into the jungle as soon as they became aware of the presence of authorities.

In a different village in the same municipality, an empty FARC camp was found to contain a 20-gallon barrel of explosive materials and several lightweight tents, while in the surrounding area authorities discovered nearly five acres of coca ready to be collected and processed.

In operations further south, in the bordering department of Casanare, three FARC camps apparently belonging to the “Jose Maria Cordova” squadron, were seized and destroyed by authorities in the municipalities of Tamara and Sacama, where the armed forces found guerrilla uniforms.
