A family, including two young children, have been tragically buried in an avalanche while mining gold on the western coast of Colombia.

The family was identified as María Rita Angulo, 50 years; Alejandro Angulo, 31 years; Flor Angela Angulo 33 years; Maicol Angulo, and two unidentified children, allegedly three and two years, according to Caracol Radio.

Santa Fe radio also broad-casted the incident, saying that the buried bodies were recovered with the help of family and friends and was initially reported by the community’s legal representative.

The family was mining gold in the Buenaventura municipality of the Valle de Cauca department. The site where they were found is known as “the deer” and is allegedly difficult to access.
