Three Colombian soldiers have been wounded in an explosives attack by a group of ELN guerrilla rebels on Monday.
According to newspaper El Espectador, authorities reported that army troops were attacked by the ELN early Monday morning near the Venezuelan border while “developing military control operations in the area.”
Three soldiers, Corporal Castañeda Hernandez Diego and regular soldiers Hernandez Castellanos Jesus and Jhon Alexander Medina Tijaca, were wounded as a result of the ELN detonated explosion. The wounded were immediately transported to a nearby hospital but their status has not been reported.
The attack occurred in the northern department of Arauca on a road leading from the town of Puerto Nariño Saravena.
The ELN stands for the National Liberation Army and is Colombia’s second largest rebel group, after the FARC, that is still operating in the country.
