3 illicit pharmaceutical laboratories shut down in joint Colombia-Interpol operation

by Oliver Sheldon May 23, 2014

Interpol reported Thursday that thee illicit drug laboratories were dismantled in Colombia as part of an operation that also closed thousands of online pharmacies.

The international police force reported that Operation “Pangea VII” targeted “criminal networks behind the sale of fake medicines via illicit online pharmacies.”

The operation led to 237 arrests in 111 countries and the seizure of nearly $36 million worth of potentially dangerous medicines.

The three illicit laboratories found in Colombia were located in Bogota. The city has since requested Interpol for further assistance tracking down the criminal organizations involved.

Internationally, the operation resulted in the seizure of 9.4 million counterfeit or illegal drugs, whose value would have been around $36 million.
