Colombia’s national police seized 2.3 tons of drugs in a three-day operation to combat micro-trafficking, reports Caracol.
Between Monday and Wednesday of this week, police seized heroin, cocaine, coca leaves, marijuana and crack cocaine in 116 raids in conjunction with police in all of Colombia’s 32 departments. In the raids, 927 people were caught in the act of small-scale drug trafficking, and another 60 were arrested through search warrants.
According to leading conflict think tank Nuevo Arco Iris, micro-trafficking has become a major source of funding for criminal groups, especially in Colombia’s urban areas.
